New York City Style Game Day Food!

Photo taken from the top of the Empire State Building
Okay, let me start by saying I'm not a sports fan at all...gasp! But I do love going to those game day parties to munch on great finger foods! My hubby is a huge sports fan and he told me that this year the football game is all about New York! YAY...I'm a New Yorker, so now I have two things in common with 'The Big Day'...great food and my state! I currently live in the suburbs of NY, but it's only a one hour drive to the city. We go there often and love all the fun things to do in NYC. But the best part for me is the amazing food! One of my favorite New York City foods is a push-cart hot dog with onions from the hot dog vendors on the streets of Manhattan. You can find them on just about every corner! I decided to re-create those hot dog onions in my own kitchen! I tried many different ingredients until I was able to get the exact taste of the NYC hot dog onions that I crave and love!

Recently, as part of my Allrecipes.com Brand Ambassador Program I was asked to create a New York City inspired recipe for Game Day using RITZ crackers. I've always loved RITZ crackers and knew that my hot dog onion recipe would be perfect to serve on top of their crackers! Thankfully RITZ agreed and they published my recipe on Allrecipes.com. How cool is that! I love the photo of my recipe that the talented folks at Ritz created. Check it out *here*. It looks so much better than my own recipe photo below!

This is such an easy recipe to make and eat! This is cooked, sliced, hot dogs topped with diced onions that are sautéed in a chili flavored tomato sauce and served on top of RITZ crackers with a drizzle of yellow mustard. A perfect 'one bite' snack! It can even be made days in advance and then reheated and served on top of the crackers just before your guests arrive! So this year, why not bring a taste of New York to your Game Day Parties!

1. Heat oil in a skillet on medium-high heat. Add the diced onions; cook and stir until fluid has evaporated and onions are soft, about 8 minutes.
2. Stir in hot pepper sauce, sugar, and chili powder. Simmer for about 2 minutes. Add tomato paste and water; stir. Simmer for another 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
3. Arrange RITZ Crackers on a serving platter and top each cracker with a slice of cooked hot dog. Spoon a small amount of the hot dog onions on top of each.
4. Drizzle the yellow mustard on top of the onions and serve warm.

Makes 40 which serves about 8-10 people.

I tried this RITZ White Pizza Meatball Dip

RITZ White Pizza Meatball Dip
This is from the RITZ NY BLITZ recipe collection. I totally fell in love with this yummy appetizer! That recipe was created for RITZ by the owner of the famous Lombardi's Pizzeria in New York City. Lombardi's was founded in 1905, making it the first pizzeria in the United States. Still located in the Little Italy section of Manhattan offering its beautiful, smoky-crusted coal oven baked pizza.
If you're ever in NYC stop in for a slice or two!
