Apple Roses

I've seen this recipe in many different places all over the internet. They looked so pretty and sounded so easy that I had to try them! These Apple Roses are not only easy to make and pretty to look at...they are also truly delicious! It's like little individual apple pies.
This cute dessert treat really caught the eye of all my guests. Everyone immediately gravitated towards these. And they didn't hesitate to take a bite! These were loved by all. I was asked to make them again for Thanksgiving...and I gladly agreed.

Apple Roses
Makes 12 apple roses
Recipe can be cut in half to make 6 apple roses

INGREDIENTS:
4 red apples - I used McIntosh
juice of 1 lemon
2 flat pie dough sheets or puff pastry sheets
1 cup granulated brown sugar
cinnamon powder
powdered sugar

DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Grease and flour a muffin tin.
Place muffin tin on a cookie sheet to catch spills.

Cut apples in half and carefully remove seeds, keeping the apple halves intact.
Using a mandolin or a knife, slice the apple halves into very thin slices. You'll need about 18-20 slices per apple. Place all the slices in a very large bowl with the lemon juice and enough water so that the slices are submerged. Be careful not to break the slices. 
Microwave on high for 3-6 minutes or until slices have become slightly soft and flexible.

Roll out each pie dough sheet and slice each sheet into 6 equal strips. You should now have 12 long narrow strips. Place about 9 apples on each strip of dough, slightly over lapping each slice. Sprinkle with about a tablespoon of brown sugar, then dust with cinnamon powder. Now roll up the dough to form the rose. After all the apple roses are assembled place in the prepared muffin tin and bake on middle rack uncovered for 40-45 minutes or until nicely browned.

 

Remove from muffin tin using a spoon and serve warm or room temperature.

Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
