Just a Good Old Fashioned Whisky Sour

Whisky Sour

This cocktail brings back memories of my first drink in a real bar. I wanted to be grown-up and sophisticated (I was 18 years old, legal drinking age back then) so I decided to ask the bartender to make me a whisky sour. It was the late 70's, and this drink was very popular back then.

I recently decided to try this drink again at home. I'm very picky about my whisky sours...no powdered sour mixes for me! I used the 'real' stuff...fresh squeezed lemons, simple syrup and whisky, of course. It's the amounts of each ingredient that makes all the difference in how this cocktail will taste. I tried a few different times until I got it just right. This is how it goes...

INGREDIENTS:
1 shot blended whisky
1 shot simple syrup
1/2 shot fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 maraschino cherry

DIRECTIONS:
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice.
Pour all ingredients, except the cherry, into the shaker.
Shake vigorously until foamy.
Strain into a highball glass that is half filled with ice.
Top with a maraschino cherry and serve.
Makes 1 cocktail
