Sweet Garlic Chicken

Sweet Garlic Chicken

This recipe is so VERY easy and so tasty! And it only has 4 ingredients...well 6, if you count the salt & pepper! I love garlic and would put it on almost anything! But I never thought that combining garlic with brown sugar and olive oil could make such a flavorful recipe!

This chicken was so tender and juicy! This meal was done in less than an hour! It was sweet and savory...my two favorite flavors!

I found this recipe here on Food.com. I made some slight changes because I doubled the recipe and didn't cook it at such a high temperature. My chicken breasts were very thick and needed to be cooked longer. They would have burned at 500 degrees for 30 minutes.

This is how I made this delicious recipe...

INGREDIENTS:
6 large boneless skinless chicken breasts
8 large cloves garlic - crushed
8 Tbls. brown sugar
6 tsp. extra virgin olive oil
salt & pepper to season both side of chicken breasts

DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt & pepper and set aside.
In a small skillet saute the garlic with the olive oil until tender.
Remove the skillet from the heat and add the brown sugar, mix thoroughly.
Place the seasoned chicken breasts in a very large baking dish lined with tin foil.
Rub the brown sugar/garlic mixture over the chicken.
Bake uncovered for 35-45 minutes or until cooked through.
If the chicken starts to overly brown before it is fully cooked, cover it loosely with tin foil and continue baking until fully cooked.
Pour pan juices over chicken before serving.
Goes great with potatoes and a green vegetable.

  4. Hi Lillian, I just had one question. When you add the brown sugar to the olive oil and garlic is it suppose to make a sauce? Because mine stayed just as brown sugar consistency if you know what I mean? The recipe states "pour" mixture onto chicken and mine was not pourable lol! What did i do wrong? As I'm typing this my chicken is in the oven & it smells wonderful! Can't wait to try! Thanks for the recipe!

    1. Hi Virginia! Yes, it kind of clumps together, so you have to pour it ontop and smear it all over the chicken. It should melt while baking! And there should be some pan juices that you can pour over the chicken after its baked. I hope you liked it! =)

  7. How do you crush the garlic? And do you saute it in the olive oil after it's crushed?

    ReplyDelete

    1. You can crush the garlic with a kitchen utensil called a garlic press. It's a common item sold in all houseware stores. And yes, you saute the garlic after it's crushed.I hope you try the recipe! Thanks for checking it out! =)

    2. If you use garlic regularly, you will wonder how you ever did without a garlic press. But since you don't have one (yet), here's how you do it. Peel it (I find it easiest after I've cut the bottom off) then smash it with the side of your wide knife blade. Then chop away!

    3. Yes, I do it that way also! And sometimes I just crush it directly into the pan using the tines of a fork. =D

  8. Tell the truth, Lillian, do you ever add more than 8 cloves of garlic to this recipe?? Ha! I am printing this out and will let you know when I make it!

  9. I was wondering if you could make this as a marinade and soak the chicken in it, then grill it??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think it would work as a marinade because there isn't enough liquid to soak the chicken in. The mix becomes a clump of seasoned brown sugar that you smear only on the tops of each chicken breast. But I like the way you think! =D

  10. Just wondering can you use it on other parts of the chicken besides the breast...

    1. Oh yes, I think this would be great on all chicken parts, as long as it is skinless! I'm not sure if it would be too greasy with the skin on! Thank you for checking it out! =)

    1. I'm not too sure about that! I never use sugar substitutes. I guess as long as it reacts the same way as brown sugar, it should work, but then the taste is a whole other matter...lol! Sorry, I wish I could be more help! =)

    2. That's what I'm thinking too. It's just so much sweeter and I usually don't use it. I only used it once for baking. Maybe I need to wait till tomorrow and get real brown sugar. Don't want to mess it up :)

  27. I found this recipe several months ago and can not tell you how many times I have made it since. I can truthfully say that I am addicted to this meal. I also double the sauce and make some white rice and pour it over the rice. Also make broccoli and add some garlic and brown sugar to that too. I probably get a sugar high from all that brown sugar but can't help it, I Love It!!
    Thanks

  28. How do you think this would go in a slow cooker? It looks amazing, I just love garlic. My kids reckon I love garlic so much that my dad must have been Italian...lol.... cheers Heather

    1. Hi Heather! lol...I'm Italian but I eat more garlic than any Italian I know! You'll never hear me say that something is too garlicky...lol!

I like your slow cooker idea but I don't think this would work in a slow cooker because you want to chicken to have that oven roasted flavor. Slow cookers tend to make it taste like it's been boiled rather than roasted.
But if you try it please let me know! Thanks! =D
