Philly Cheese Steak Spaghetti

Philly Cheese Steak Spaghetti

I love making classic recipes with a new twist! This worked perfectly! This tastes just like a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich with spaghetti instead of a hero roll. Use wheat pasta if you're looking to cut down on carbs. My family loved this and said I can make it more often! That means it was a winner!

INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 lbs. deli roast beef, sliced thin and cut into strips
1 large white onion, sliced thin
1/4 tsp. kosher salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
3 tbls. corn oil
1 lb spaghetti, cooked according to package directions

 CHEESE SAUCE:
4 tbls. butter
4 tbls. flour
1/2 tsp. kosher salt, but taste the sauce before adding.
1/4 tsp. black pepper
2 cups milk, I use low fat
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

DIRECTIONS FOR CHEESE SAUCE:
In a medium sized saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
Add the flour and stir while cooking the flour for about 2 minutes.
Slowly add the milk, allowing it to thicken while constantly stirring.
Add 1/2 tsp of kosher salt (if needed) and 1/4 tsp. black pepper.
Stir and add in the shredded cheddar.
Keep stirring until all the cheese is melted and smooth and until the sauce is thickened.
Turn off heat, cover and keep warm.

Now cook the spaghetti according to the package directions.
While the spaghetti is cooking start browning the onions with the roast beef by
heating a large skillet on medium heat with the corn oil.
When oil is hot add the onions and cook until onions are very tender and fully cooked.
Then add in the sliced roast beef strips, 1/4 tsp kosher salt and 1/4 tsp black pepper, stirring and sauteing until well incorporated.
Remove from heat and keep warm.

Serve cooked and drained spaghetti topped with the sauteed roast beef and onions and cheddar cheese sauce.
Serves 4

    1. I'm not too familiar with diabetic restrictions, but I know that Dreamfield brand low carb pasta is so very good! I've tried it a few times and my kids didn't know that it was any different from regular pasta. That would be a perfect sub for the spaghetti in this recipe! =D

    1. Well, I'm not from Philly and have never had a cheese steak from there, but I loved this version! You can't go wrong when you add a creamy cheese sauce to meat! I hope you love it as much as we do! =D

    1. Thanks Robert! But I think beef bouillon is very salty. The meat in this recipe isn't too salty, but you have to check the cheese sauce before adding the salt because the level of salt might depend on what brand of cheddar you use.

  19. I'm sorry but this is expensive very blah and one and a half pounds of roast beef is way to much for the amount of sauce.

  20. thanks for the recipe! just want to ask what is kosher salt?
does it different with regular salt? sorry for my bad english! :P

    1. Kosher salt is less processed than regular table salt. And kosher salt doesn't contain iodine. I think kosher salt has a much cleaner taste. And I find that I use less of an amount of salt when using kosher salt. I hope you will try the recipe! P.S. your English seems fine to me! =D

  21. This was our yummy supper tonight! I only had one pound of meat, so I reduced the amount of onion somewhat and used only one tablespoon of oil, and added one shake of garlic salt on the meat as well. It all came together really well when plated up. Thanks for the recipe. Diane

  22. I am going to try to use Steak-Umms instead of the roast beef. We love steak-umm around here :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh yes, I've had Steak-Umms in the past. They are a little more fatty and don't have as strong of a beef flavor as sliced deli roast beef, but it should work. Please let me know what you think! Thank you =D
